How should I replace the side mirror on my 97 accord?

I have a 97 Honda Accord. Last weekend I bumped into a tree making a large crack in my right-hand side mirror which is currently being held together with duct tape. The damage is only in the casing and did not affect the power mirror itself. I have the opportunity to get a non-power mirror and was wondering if i would be able to use the casing from the non power mirror to replace the casing of my power mirror and fix the problem. Can i remove the casing from a non-power mirror without damaging it and then put it on my power mirror?

Yes you can! You have to CAREFULLY!! pop the mirror out of the casing, then you will see screws underneath the glass. Remove the screws and the casing SHOULD come off. Check the base of it as well ( the part that mounts to the door) there may be a screw there as well. Good luck!!

Can a cracked passenger side mirror on a car cause it to fail an mot?

Am buying a car that passed it's mot with a crack in the actual side mirror on the passenger side (the actual mirror rather than the casing). The car passed the mot but someone has just told me they think a car can't pass the mot with a crack in the mirror?
Help!

If the crack doesn't prevent the mirror from functioning, it's not an MOT failure.
The exact definition of pass or fail for mirrors is;

Not distorted or damaged so as to seriously impair the driver's view of the rear
