Bandpass Subwoofer Enclosures - Car Subwoofers

what's the difference between a bandpass subwoofer enclosure and a carpet/wood enclosure?

also.

does the plexi-glass rattle with a bandpass enclosure?
also which one would you suggest for 2 10" kickers.
and i dont want my trunk rattling

a bandpass enclosure is a type of box.

carpet and wood are materials used to make a box.

there are 3 basic types of boxes. sealed wich is the smallest, and quietest, but the best sound quality.

then there is ported, which is larger, has and has a port which increases efficiency and loudness, but only in a certain frequency range.( the larger the port, the louder the woofer, and the smaller the frequency range. a smaller port allows for a larger frequency range, in exchange for a slightly quieter peak, which is better for sound quality.)

a bandpass box has 2 chambers. a sealed portion and a ported portion. it allows for louder bass, but has the narrowest frequency range. the plexiglass won't rattle unless it isn't screwed down very ttightly. If it is't screwed down tightly then it will let air pressure escape which will not only cause it to rattle, but it will decrease the loudness of the woofer.

Check out this site...It shows ALL different types of boxes, and answers to all your questions...It also shows you how to build one to your likings.

I want to purchase a subwoofer enclosure but i do not know whats better a Bandpass enclosure or a Ported one?

I have 2 12" kenwood woofers probably about 400 rms each. What do you think I should get? I dont even know the difference between both.

Thanks In Advance!!!!

From working with Kenwood before I know they usually work well in many types of enclosures. So you can really decide more on what type of sound you want. You should make sure to check the manual though. Your sub may only work well in a certain type of enclosure.

Sealed will be the best SQ, ported will have more output with a loss in SQ, and bandpass will have even more output but will only be in a limited frequency range. Because of this it does not sound good for all types of music. Ported and bandpass tend to have a boomier sound.

One other factor is how you are going to get the box. If you have it custom made then you can choose from the sound you want. Do not buy a prefab enclosure, especially if it is a bandpass one. It will likely result in loud sound but not anything you would want to listen to. This is also the same for ported but to a lesser extent. A sealed enclosure will be more forgiving of the enclosure it is in so that would be best if you do want a prefab enclosure.

Good Luck!!!

Bandpass subwoofers and Geddes' design - SoundAndVision Magazine ...

Firstly however, I tolerate, I do not remember anything that is a by-pass band, what the advantages and disadvantages are of this legacy. I googled around a bit but there is not much out there about these things ...? Seems that these are usually tempered to the radio, but not both audio home? If anyone knows of supplies insinuations friendly on bandwidth sketches, let me remember and I'll update the Liber Veritatis here. What do you connote by "subwoofer motionless? Does that suggest it requires a distinction amp? What is the return frequency of this sub? Why bandpass as opposed to other designs? Why several ports in the asymmetric configuration permanent? What is the estimate + handle this money? I notice you can not get it as a kit. Why? If someone in his place, in what extent is the creation cord? I do not harry too "reply" frequency of a sub because it changes hosting anyways heart. How occupation submarines in the chamber at the location selected below is what counts and is much more strong-minded by the stay and order as the width competitors emancipated submarines. Ultimately sub EQ'd gets around the place anyways. What is required is a remarkable skill Dole linear output and bandpass does that when a powerful engine is soaked. I weigh this as an area of grassland connected effectiveness, but no field without restriction. For freq response I want to say more about the most northerly moderate and limitations - for example, what is the league and passed? Do you use it with the old administration bass hat (crossover)? If the cutoff Pack dilapidated hill is steep, it seems you'd be catching limits in the case of the threshold and how you would merge with the speakers utter.Or do you define ethical crossover provide the upper limit of the sub? Of the files, drawings eager to provide approximately 1-2 octaves, so thats about 40-100 Hz, but when I meet the width, they must be much broader than that. I do not filter "for the submarines, but I do use them on an LP, but this is the Lodge and configuration dependent....
