Why would a 16x ripped CD play fine on a car stereo yet have dead spots when played on a home DVD player?

Is there a difference in the quality of error correction in different systems, how much difference and what worth paying how much extra £$ for not to get skipping and drop outs? Are cheap DVD players noticeably less accurate than mid price CD players?

The quick answer is over-sampling.
Because a car stereo is prone to vibration and bouncing, the signal is read or over-sampled before it is played. By over-sampling, if part of the signal is missed first time, it is captured next time. House Hi-Fis general don't need over-sampling as the operating environment is a lot more friendly.

i wanna buy a new car stereo o can play music i see these dvd cd car stereo's they look pret good the makes of them though sound cheap i more worried what the music will sound like good sound and that so music is main thing but to have dvd built in looks good

your better off goin with a brand like sony pioneer etc....i used to have a dvd player but when i think back i never actually used the dvd..??wat are ya gonna do,sit in a car park and watch a movie?!i got mine off ebay and it was a cheap make an sound hadn much bass.
